18 Tapestries for 18 regions

As Spatial Designer, I am responsible for all things 3D, translating the pavilion’s narrative into physical form, materials, and finishes. I worked on all 18 large-scale tapestries, each four metres tall, digitally painting the full underlayer artwork for Philippine weavers to interpret. These tapestries shaped the spatial layout of the pavilion and also functioned as audio-visual scrims. I collaborated with motion and projection designers to balance craft, texture, and light so that the woven surfaces and animated content worked together seamlessly. This work included travelling to Lyon to collaborate with a weaving specialist and spending a month in Japan overseeing the installation.
